What to Look out for in a Data Entry Job Scam

Submitted By Our Expert Home-Based Business Author, Mike Law on 2009-05-20

You can end up the victim of a data entry business scam without really trying to by putting yourself right in the path of a mailing list by filling out a form. Data entry job scams use lists to get the names of the people they need to begin mailing. Once you are on their list, be ready to receive a ton of spam.

Sites like Craigslist are a easy target for these data entry business scams. They post jobs that look to be very good data entry jobs. They use your city and information that appears to come from someone in your city. Once you send them your information, you have placed your name on the list. The list will be sold more than once because they do not care how many mailings you receive.

A few things to consider when posting for a job on Craigslist are:

* The job contains no information that would be known only by a resident. Usually a job posting may state the company or it may give the part of town the job will be in. Job posting employers give the part of town to save your time and theirs by applying for a job too far away from home. They put the area of town in the posting to help cut down on the amount of calls and resumes they would receive without it. A data entry job scam will not have anything that gives you town information in the posting.

* How do you reach them? When you apply for a job, you often have someone to send your resume to or call. If they do not want you to know initially what the name of the company is, they may give you a P.O. Box or a generic name to send your resume to. Data entry business scams do not have anyone to refer to or follow up with.

* When can you begin? Data entry opportunity scams want you to begin instantly. Most employers know that the process will take a few weeks, so they don’t appear like they will have to close until you get there. They don’t want you if you don’t give notice because they will believe you will do the same thing to them. That is the right thing to do for any real companies and they will expect it from their current employees who decide to leave.

The job you see on the job board will sound very appealing. You may have lost your job and desperately need a new one. Once you read it, you will submit your CV. You will guess that they got your resume first and based on your experience will pick you over anyone else. Data entry job scams will sound perfect for you at first. This type of listing gives false hope to the person who applies. And once they do apply, they are hit with all types of spam in their email and even at the postal address that they put on the resume.
