Mold has been around since the dawn of time and man has spent plenty of time and money trying to figure out how to get rid of it. It comes in all kinds of colors and forms but all molds love dampness and if your home is damp or humid, then it’s a sure bet that household mold will find it an irresistible place to live.
Mold can be found in plenty of places outside but, chances are, you probably have some growing in your home too. It likes to grow in moist places but it also likes to hide and can grow in your drywall, paint, sealing, bathtub tiles and even in your carpets. It is typically found in the basement and in the bathrooms were it tends to be a little more damp.
There are actually a couple of different kinds of household mold, but perhaps the most well-known is the black mold which can be toxic and cause a host of health problems.
No matter what kind of mold you have, you want to one get rid of it because eventually it will ruin whatever it is growing on and it has a tendency to multiply and spread unless you make it difficult for the mold to grow. Even if you think you don't have mold in your home, you might want to check down in your basement or in the backs of your cupboards - anyplace that might be a little damp or where you might not notice it taking hold.
If you do find some mold, don't panic you can get rid of it! One thing you can use that you probably have in your house right now is vinegar. Just put some vinegar mixed with water in a spray bottle and spray it on the mold - you should be able to wipe it off after a few minutes. If you find mold in your carpet, try sprinkling some baking soda on the area and leaving it there for a couple of hours before vacuuming the baking soda up.
Another thing you want to do to discourage mold from growing is to make sure your house isn't too humid. You might want to consider a dehumidifier, especially in the basement, or even an air conditioner for the summer time in the main part of your house which will help to take the humidity out of the air and make it more pleasant for you to be in.
Having household mold is certainly unpleasant and can actually be harmful to your family's health. Therefore you want to take steps to get rid of mold as soon as you detect that it is growing in your home. Prompt action will help the problem from becoming overwhelming.
