There are quite a few different types of warts, but all are caused by a virus. In fact, warts are actually benign tumors on your skin which are caused by the human papillomavirus. This virus causes a thickening of the skin which results in what we call warts.

Unlike what you might have heard, warts do not have roots and are merely presented in the epidermis. What happens is the virus invades the skin cells and causes the cells to reproduce at a faster rate than normal. This is what causes the "bump" of the wart - which is simply too many skin cells trying to fit into a compressed space. Warts can appear at any time, and they can also disappear on their own without any treatment.

Different Types Of Warts:

Flat Warts

These warts are flat topped and smoother than other types of warts. You often see them on the face because the wart grows a little differently on facial skin giving a different appearance.

Common Wart

The common wart or Verruca Vulgaris are those thick bumps with the rough surface that we often think of when we hear the word "wart". These are usually found on the hands, space needs an elbow.

Plantar Warts

These are the wart you get on the bottom of your feet and they can be really painful because they can grow into the skin rather than out. Depending on where they are located on your foot, just walking can put enough pressure on them to make them really hurt.

Genital Warts

Genital warts appear in the genital area can range in size from very small to rather large. Like all warts, they can spread to contact so anyone with genital warts should refrain from sexual activity.

How Do You Get Warts?

People of all ages can get warts but they are most commonly found in children and young adults. What many people don't realize is that warts can actually be spread through contact. No one really knows exactly how you get warts from someone else, but coming in contact with someone who has the human papillomavirus can result in you getting warts. In addition it is thought that planters warts, the ones on the bottom of your feet can be spread to contact with moist floors.

Although there are different types of warts, the treatment for them can be the same and treatment can vary person to person. It is thought that the ease at which you can get rid of warts is related to the health of your immune system. Like a lot of things, what works for one person might not work for another and you might have to experiment with some treatments before you find one that works for you.
