Acne has caused my family so much aggravation and worry, that at one point I even began to rank acne medications. Let me explain. Just yesterday, we helped our youngest daughter and her husband move into their new digs. What a fantabulous time! I had so much fun with my 16 month old grand daughter, she tired me out.
What hurts me so much is my youngest daughters’ acne experience during her teen years. Whenever I look at her acne scarred face, I remember our battles in trying to bring her acne under some type of control. What a time that was.
In the end we did win. When I say win, I mean we won control. She knows her acne triggers. She knows the foods that set her acne on fire. Winning the war against acne is chiefly an information gathering exercise.
My reason for writing this article is to consider my futile attempt at trying to rank acne medications. I’ll also discuss what acne personally means to you and the challenges of trying to rank acne medications.
Acne And You
My close childhood friend of many decades was recently diagnosed with cancer. Our whole family was rocked back on our collective heels. He is the type of friend that sticks closer than a brother. As a matter of fact, he is the brother I never had. I have been blessed with four loving sisters.
Yes, I am aware that I am blessed to have four sisters. But it wasn't fun as a young boy to get into fights and your sisters come to your rescue. After a while the guys wouldn't fight me for fear they would get beaten up by a bunch of girls.
Anyway, let’s get back on track.
My best friend asked me to accompany him and his wife on their visit to his doctor. I agreed to support him all the way. The reason I am telling you this story is because of something the doctor told him that stuck with me to this day. The doctor carefully explained about the cancer that he had. At the end of the visit, the doctor called it his cancer.
I questioned the doctor about her statement. I asked, "why did you specifically call the cancer, his cancer."
She quickly responded, "because it is unique to him," she added, "no one else has the cancer that he has."
The Uniqueness Of Acne
I told that story because I firmly believe the acne that you have is unique to you and you alone. Yes, other people have acne; but they don't have yours. This is the reason you have tried so many different acne medications without success.
You wonder why it worked perfectly on the person in the testimonial and failed to work on you. Here, on a golden platter, is the reason why. Your acne is unique to you.
As stated previously in this article, everyone’s acne is unique to them. All skin is not created equally. It comes in different shapes, sizes and textures. Some have moist skin, others have dry skin, and still others have flaky skin.
Attempt To Rank Acne Medications
In order to rank acne medications properly, we would need a dry skin category, a moist skin category, a flaky skin category and so on. Any acne ranking structure would have to be broken down to take these niche categories into consideration.
Initially, it seemed like a great idea. But at that point in time I didn’t understand the uniqueness of acne. I told you earlier that information gathering is your best form of attack. And it still is.
Here is the reason why. You are gathering information about you! You find out what triggers your acne. You also find out what you can expect when you eat your acne trigger foods and foods that help versus foods that hinder.
It’s because of this very personal information and the uniqueness of your acne that trying to rank acne medications is such a futile exercise.
